Captain Morris



     Captain Morris was born on December 18, 1985 in Douglas, Georgia. He spent his childhood moving around the country with his father who is a retired Marine. Captain Morris finished his high school years in Beaufort, South Carolina. After graduation from high school, he received an athletic scholarship to play collegiate football at Mars Hill College in Asheville, North Carolina. Captain Morris graduated from Mars Hill College with a B.S. in Athletic Training, a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Pre-Medicine.

     January 2009, Candidate Morris reported to U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidate School, Quantico Virginia. March 20, 2009, Candidate Morris commissioned in the Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant and reported directly to The Basic School (TBS). Following the successful completion of TBS and Basic Artillery Officer’s Course/ Marine Artillery Basic Officer School, Second Lieutenant Morris reported to 2d Battalion, 10th Marine regiment as a 0802, Artillery Forward Observer.

     March 2011, Second Lieutenant Morris was selected to deploy with 3d Battalion, 2d Marines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). While deployed with 3/2, he served in Company K as, Weapons Platoon Commander, Fire Support Team Leader, Artillery Forward Observer, and Company Level Intel Officer. In October 2011, First Lieutenant Morris redeployed back to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In December 2011, First Lieutenant Morris transferred back to Battery F and was selected as a M777A2 firing Platoon Commander for the upcoming combat deployment.

     April 2012, First Lieutenant Morris again deployed to Southern Musa Quelah, Helmand Province, conducting split battery operations. While deployed, First Lieutenant Morris served as the detachment commander and platoon commander for Battery F, providing fire support for Task Force Leatherneck and special operations forces. In September 2012, First Lieutenant Morris redeployed back to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and was selected to serve as Battery F Executive Officer until January 2013.

     January 30, 2013, First Lieutenant Morris reported to the United States Naval Academy, where he was selected to serve as Defensive Coordinator for the Sprint Football Team and as a Martial Arts Instructor. On May 23, 2013, Captain Morris took command as 11th Company Officer where he currently serves.

     Captain Morris’ personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. He is married to Danielle Morris of Hackensack, New Jersey and they have two children J’elle 5 and Larry III 3.
